Mott Hall II was founded in 2002 by Jorisis Stupart, our principal, and a small group of dedicated Bronx educators. Ms. Stupart had been teaching in Bronx middle schools for a number of years, and she felt passionately that the students of District 9 deserved a rigorous, engaging education in a nurturing and structured environment.
Ms. Stupart was handpicked by the then-District 9 superintendent to lead in the creation of Mott Hall III. Ms. Stupart spent a year planning the new school, which opened its doors in September 2002 with 60 sixth graders and six faculty members.
Today, Mott Hall III has grown to over 350 students in sixth through eighth grades. In the process, we have expanded our enrichment opportunities for students, moved to our current location across from Crotona Park, and, this year, launched a robust afterschool program. While we have undergone each of these initiatives, we have continued to prioritize two central aspects of our mission: nurturing our children in a structured and caring environment, and holding them to high expectations, both academically and behaviorally. Mott Hall III is consistently listed in New York City’s Best Public High Schools: A Parent’s Guide, and was featured as “One of the Best” middle schools in New York City by the Daily News in 2012.
