Hello, I am Ms. Mercedes and  I have been teaching in Mott Hall III since September of 2010.  When I first arrived, I taught Social Studies, Writing and Reading to sixth grade students.  Recently, I have been working with the seventh grade on their reading and writing skills.

I was born and raised in the Bronx.  I went to Mt. St. Ursula for High School in the Bedford Park neighborhood of the Bronx.  I received my Bachelor’s Degree in English at the College of Mt. St. Vincent, where I also got my Masters Degree in Multicultural Education. It was there that I received my teaching certificate in middle school and high school English by 2005 and began my teaching career.

In all my years, I have appreciated the Bronx and enjoyed the many things it has to offer, from the schools I have attended to the Bronx Zoo and the many beautiful parks, including Van Cortlandt Park, where I exercise and walk with my family. I believe that education can take place not only within the school setting, but outdoors and in moments from our everyday lives.

I am very interested in working with the Mott Hall III community and continuing to invest in the Bronx.  I may reach out to parents through the progress reports that are given out every Friday, but I am always happy to speak with you in person or via phone.  As always, I hope to hear from students, parents, coworkers, and administrators in working to develop this school to meet the needs of our students.
