I have been teaching at Mott Hall 3 for eight years. This year, I teach 8th grade English; our class texts include To Kill a Mockingbird, The Omnivore’s Dilemma, Unbroken, and Inside Out and Back Again. I also promote independent reading using a library that is customized to student reading levels, with the result that my students have increased their Lexiles an average of 100L since September.
After school, I run a music program called Rock Stars, a program in which students with little to no musical experience learn to play guitar, bass, piano, or drums and perform in front of the school community. This year, students will perform “Stand by Me” and “Livin’ for the City” at our Black History Celebration in February. You can see former students perform at www.mh3rockstars.com.
I graduated from the University of Michigan in 2008 to receive my Bachelor’s Degree in English and graduated from City College in 2011 to receive my Master’s Degree in Secondary English Education.
